I just wish my speedometer and odometer worked.

I hate how slow and awful on gas it is, but I've slowly grown to like it. And on a side note I also kinda want a TBSS.

The whole cluster is $2,300 apparently. And you’d have to figure out how to change the redline and other things.

Ask Toyota for lolz.

Mine didn’t work either on my ‘89 pickup.

Nope. I have to use my phone’s GPS. They haven’t for like 2 years.

What bothers me most is that I know what the problem is, I have the part for it, and I had started to fix it, but then the boot on the old sensor snapped off in to the trans. So what should have taken me like 30 minutes tops, now requires me dropping the transmission.

Transmission Speed Sensor, read my full reply to Zoidberg on why it pisses me off. It’s also why I won’t fix it. Plus, I’m getting a new daily driver soon enough, so for a weekend vehicle it’s less of a big deal.

$3,500 can get you a mint 2003 TrailBlazer that can be a clean slate for an LS swap. RWD, too.

Is yours the 22RE or the 3.Slow?

Kinja'd!!!0

Not OP, but it’s a 3VZE. It’s really not that bad of an engine once the gaskets have been replaced correctly. Plus, I’d much rather have it than an engine that barely breaks 100 hp in a 4000 lbs SUV.

3.slow thank God. I probably would've destroyed it out of rage if it had the 22. And I've seen TBSSs on CL for $7500ish in decent shape.

It’s really not bad once you get used to it. I honestly think the slowness makes you a better driver, because it teaches you patience and situational awareness.

Maybe? I dunno. Another annoying thing is that the suspension sag messes up my fuel level sensor so I could have more than a gallon left and my light comes on. My dad doesn't want to deal with it though.

I really am going to miss not having to swerve for shit though, and the whole “0 Fucks Given” driving style it allows. I did very much enjoy my 75 miles of wasting gas, and hopping puddles yesterday.

Good point. There’s just no 4Runner’s that I can afford around me, and that super sucks. Like, I can find Pathfinder’s all day, but do I *really* want one?

I don’t know about Pathfinders, but if you can find a good 2nd gen for cheap, I would recommend one if you are aware that you need a rainy day fund for head gaskets. Unless they have receipts for the repair that includes new heads or at least resurfaced heads.

That would be bad. Considering a gallon only lasts me about ten miles anyway, I guess it could be worse.

If go look for one, be sure to check the coolant and oil. Also, inquire about the head gaskets, but at those miles I’m 95% sure they’ve been done before.

That could probably buy you a pretty decent 3rd-gen 4Runner, maybe a nice gen-2, and almost definitely a gen-2 Trooper. However the Trooper might be kinda hard to find. But be wary with those gen-2 troopers; they’re very prone to rolling.

Kinja'd!!! Jack Does Cars > Jordan and the Slowrunner, Boomer Intensifies

Does the 3.0 have cooling issues?

Kinja'd!!! Jack Does Cars > deprecated account
04/03/2016 at 12:28

Kinja'd!!!0

I like to live life on the edge, so rolling is OK. It’s impossible to find a 4WD gen-3 4Runner (what I really want) in my price range but it isn’t impossible. Overall, 4Runners don’t go cheap in Raleigh.

Kinja'd!!! Jordan and the Slowrunner, Boomer Intensifies > Jack Does Cars

Kinja'd!!!0

From the factory they have terribly weak head gaskets, so anything wrong with the cooling will blow the factory ones. There isn’t really anything wrong with their factory cooling systems, but an older vehicle will need to have some things replaced. Now that mine has been fixed, I can keep my foot on the floor for hours(that pretty much sums up interstate driving with it being lifted) without the temp even considering getting warm.

Look around East TN and I'm sure you'll find a few for a good price. And as a bonus if you go buy one, you get to drive through the Smokies!

Just FYI, you can fit 33" tires at stock height, as long as they are relatively narrow.
